Modak This Ganpati: Small-Batch, Ready to Serve

No Ganpati bhog is complete without modak on the plate — but not every household has a free morning to shape and steam a batch from scratch once guests start arriving. Our Crispy Fried Modak is built for exactly that gap: ready straight from the pack, with the coconut-jaggery filling and festive flavour the occasion calls for.

What's Inside

Each modak is filled with coconut, jaggery, almonds, and a touch of cardamom, wrapped in a crisp shell made from khapli wheat flour, rice flour, and semolina, and fried in sunflower oil for the crunch. A few poppy seeds go into the filling for texture. It's a different style from the classic steamed ukadiche modak — closer to a festive fried sweet than a delicate steamed dumpling — but it carries the same core flavours people look for on Ganpati.

Ingredients: Semolina, coconut shreds, water, jaggery, edible sunflower oil, khapli wheat flour, rice flour, almonds, salt, cardamom, poppy seeds.

Made in Smaller Runs, Not a Factory Line

Rather than being produced on a large industrial line, this is made in smaller production runs — which is part of why the shell holds its crunch and the filling stays generous rather than thinning out to cut costs at scale. It won't taste identical to what your household makes at home, but it isn't trying to; it's built to be a reliable stand-in when there's no time to make a fresh batch yourself.

"Ready to open and serve — no steaming, no shaping, no timing it around the rest of the puja prep."

When to Serve It

It works across the festival in a few different ways: offered as part of the bhog, served to guests dropping in for darshan, or simply enjoyed with a cup of tea during the quieter hours between aartis. Because it's shelf-stable and doesn't need reheating, it's also an easy thing to keep stocked through all ten days rather than something you have to plan a fresh batch of every morning.

A Few Questions We Get

Q1. Are these suitable for offering as prasad?

Yes — they're made for Ganesh Chaturthi and work both as an offering and as a festive snack for guests.

Q2. Do they need to be heated before serving?

No, they're ready to eat straight from the pack.

Q3. What's used to sweeten them?

Jaggery — no refined sugar in the filling.

Q4. Is the texture crisp or soft, like a steamed modak?

Crisp — this is a fried modak, so the outer shell has a distinct crunch rather than the soft, steamed texture of a traditional ukadiche modak.
