Cold-pressed oil is made by slowly pressing seeds or kernels to extract the oil without adding external heat and without using chemical solvents. Because the oil is not exposed to high temperatures, it retains more of its natural flavour, aroma and nutrients than heavily refined oil. It is also sometimes called wood-pressed or kachi ghani oil.
Refined oils are usually extracted using high heat and solvents like hexane, and are then bleached and deodorised, which gives a pale, odourless oil. Cold-pressed oils skip most of these steps. The seeds are pressed slowly, the oil is filtered, and nothing is added. As a result, cold-pressed oils have a stronger natural aroma and taste, and retain more of the seed's natural nutrients.
It depends on what you cook. Cold-pressed groundnut oil is a popular all-rounder for frying, roasting and everyday sabzis. Sunflower oil is lighter in taste and suits everyday dals, curries and parathas. Black mustard oil is best for tadka, curries and pickles, and coconut oil is ideal for South Indian and coastal dishes. Many families keep two or three oils and rotate between them.
Yes. Our cold-pressed groundnut, black mustard and sunflower oils have high smoke points that suit everyday Indian cooking, including deep frying pakoras, puris and samosas. For best results, do not overheat the oil, and avoid reusing it many times.
The pungency comes naturally from compounds in black mustard seeds. To mellow it for cooking, heat the oil in the pan until it just begins to smoke, then reduce the heat or let it cool for a few moments before adding your onions, spices or vegetables. Many people find that this gives a rounder, nuttier flavour.
Coconut oil naturally solidifies at cooler temperatures, usually below about 24┬░C. This is completely normal and does not affect quality. Keep the bottle in a warm spot or place it in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes and it will turn liquid again.
No. Our cold-pressed oils contain no additives and no preservatives. They are simply the oil pressed from the seed or kernel and then filtered.
