Horsegram, also known as Kullith in Marathi, is a native variety lentil that is abundant with protein.

Horsegram is rich source of various nutrients such as polyphenols, flavanoids, antioxidants, iron, calcium etc and hence highly regarded in Ayurveda. Grown naturally in small villages of Maharashtra, it is considered to be the poor man’s superfood for its ability to fight malnutrition. It has a nutty, earthy taste and can be used instead of regular gram flour (besan) in Indian recipes.

Horsegram

Horsegram can be soaked for 3-4 hours and used to make curries. Traditionally, they are sprouted to make Maharashtrian Usal. Horsegram can be grinded to make Kullith Peeth (flour) and used for thalipeeth, multigrain dosa, cheela, pithle or gram flour curry.
