A semi polished rice, native heirloom variety from the Sahyadri ranges locally known as ‘Athyanau’.
Sahyadri Special Rice is a variety born from a selection of Kolpi rice, locally called ‘Athyanau’. It is semi polished and a great option as daily rice. Medium size grain and does not stick when cooked.
Indigenous and heirloom varieties of rice are better than the hybrid, commercial packeted ones available at supermarkets. They are naturally climate and pest resistant, with almost no requirement for chemicals. The Adivasis in the Sahyadri ranges who grow them do not have to buy seeds, manure or pesticides, making it possible for marginal tribal farmers to grow these varieties of rice in remote areas. These grains are nutritionally superior.
